RIT is seeking an experienced Human Resources professional who is passionate about driving organization-wide talent management and development initiatives. As a member of the HR Leadership Team, the Director of Talent Development is responsible for identifying, strategizing, implementing and evaluating talent management initiatives across the university. The Director will administer programs and practices to foster employee professional growth, leadership development, performance management, organizational capability, and change agility to advance RIT's strategic goals and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Live our values, embrace diverse perspectives, and nurture the RIT community to remain a great place to work for all.
  • Working with other HR and university leaders, foster a healthy workplace culture that helps RIT achieve our business objectives.
  • Lead the continued build-out of RIT HR's learning & development function, providing thought leadership and support for the creation and delivery of learning programs to support RIT's talent needs. As a change agent, shape and cultivate an institutional culture that values continuous learning and development through a lens of a positive employee experience for all.
  • Partner with managers, Sr. HR managers, and teams to understand staff development needs. Translate needs into creative learning programs in collaboration with stakeholders and training partners throughout the University.
  • Lead a team of talent development professionals to source, develop, and implement comprehensive training and professional development programs including new employee orientation and onboarding, supervisory, and leadership development programs. Partner with various training partners and content owners across campus to administer required training.
  • Lead the team through the process of re-imagining our performance management, career management, talent planning/management, and succession planning practices and approaches; create and implement new performance management solutions, as needed, to drive adoption of this work.
  • In partnership with university leaders, work to improve the quality of development planning throughout the organization, with a specific focus on leaders, their successors and high potential talent.
  • Project manage the development of top talent and high-potential programs which foster growth of key employees on the individual, team and organizational levels. Support talent development programs aimed at retaining top talent.
  • Use group-level assessment data to guide talent and leadership development strategies. Synthesize themes and trends, and summarize and present data in formats appropriate for the audience, relative to development needs and initiatives.
  • Facilitate training and development programs, events and 1:1 coaching for RIT leaders.
  • Oversee and influence the design of the talent development management system including performance management and learning management.
  • Source and develop productive partnerships with external training and development vendors.
  • Co-lead the annual performance review and salary planning process for staff with the Director of Compensation, specifically owning the performance management components (self-assessments, manager reviews & ratings, conversation, trainings).
  • Manage the annual talent development department budget process.
  • Serve as active, collaborative member of the HR leadership team, working to develop, guide, and implement strategic departmental and university initiatives and projects.
  • Provide support to other functional areas of Human Resources as needed, with particular emphasis on employee relations and staff recognition.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in organizational development, training and instructional design, human resources, or related field.
  • Proficient knowledge of adult learning principles, e-learning and leadership and employee development strategies, tools, and practices.
  • 8-10 years experience developing, presenting, and facilitating training and organizational development programs, including 5 years of direct supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading organizational change efforts.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects.
  • Experience creating leadership and succession development programs.
  • Exhibit in philosophy and practice a high level of support for the mission and values of RIT, the Human Resources department, and our shared commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Demonstrated appreciation for different backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and consultative skills. Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships and work collaboratively with and through others; ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Highly organized and willing to learn.
  • Demonstrated proficiency, comfort with and ability to learn, use and recommend technology applications related to instruction (i.e., LMS, Adobe) and general office technology (e.g., MS Office).
  • Ability to protect confidential information and maintain high standards of ethics.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in human resources, business, organizational development, counseling or related field.
  • Experience in higher education
  • Association for Talent Development (ATD) Credential or HR (such as PHR or SHRM-CP)
  • Proficiency with technology needed to develop and deliver effective training materials and presentations, including video conferencing platforms.
  • Strategic thinker with knowledge of the changing demographics and trends in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience developing curriculum, assessment, and measurable learning outcomes.
